The Brazilian market sells 445 millions of pairs of shoes yearly, resulting in an R$ 11 billion invoicing. A per capita consumption average of 3.27 pairs of any kind of shoes is estimated, which ranges from slippers to sophisticated shoes. Production in 2002 was 610 million pairs. Our exports made the difference.

The per capital yearly consumption in the Southern Region is 4.45 pair of shoes; that same figure in the Center West Region is 3.78; in the Southeastern it is 3.50, along with 2.24 pairs in the Northeastern Region, and 1.92 pairs a year in the North. On average, each person living in the Federal District buys 7.01 pairs of shoes a year. The states rated best as to consumption prospect are Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná, Santa Catarina, and São Paulo.
